You're right...I think ...Nicely written Carly! You're right...I think people cling to new post-death material because who the hell knows when we are going to get more music from these artists. And I think you're right again that a lot of unreleased music gets tied up in "the estate" of these dead icons and then gets released to the public when "the estate" feels like it. The way I see it, as long as the music is good then keep it coming. The new Jimi stuff is really great...I think you might like it :) P.S. I like how you compared their work to my blog...I'm officially humbled.Laura Lieffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10971139744724938702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4723655154973228907.post-84138161765999802212010-03-16T10:47:00.962-07:002010-03-16T10:47:00.962-07:00Well it is obvious that Hendrix and Jackson don...Well it is obvious that Hendrix and Jackson don't fall into the Vincent Van Gogh category where they only achieved ridiculous fame and fortune post death. The were iconic with every breath they took. It's more of "you don't know what you have until it's gone" in the sense that whatever post-death material is released puts a mesmerizing grip on the music community because no one knows if the opportunity will arise again to hear any undiscovered art that was stored away for a rainy day. It also helps immortalize these figures people have been worshipping for decades.

Practically speaking, I'm sure with respect to both artists (especially Hendrix who has been deceased for over 30 years) most of the material surfacing recently has been locked down in legal battles over copywright issues and whatnot.

Maybe their newly introduced songs were once sort of like your blog. They were written for their own enjoyment separate from their everyday work, and are now surfacing to be shared with others =).Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02582082930627418795noreply@blogger.com
